The Forgotten Land

The Forgotten Land

Can my heart bleed for Africa?
Is there a new ‘White Man’s Burden’?
I have water and you are thirsty
I have food and you are hungry
I have doctors, nurses and you are sick,
I have an education and you need teachers
We have engineers, architects and you need roads and buildings
I am not a savior but I know the Savior
And I know what the savior would have me do
Lord, help me not pass by this continent
Give me strength to repent from my apathy,
Stewardship, stewardship, stewardship,
Children dying of curable diseases
Children recruited for wars
Women raped and neglected
Women suppressed and beaten,
A generation disappearing from AIDS
Natural resources being exploited for war-mongers and dictators
Rwanda now Darfur and few blink an eye
What if a million Londoners died?
Or what if one New Yorker died every second of AIDS?
Is not making the entire community good for all its sectors?
What if that’s the way they like it Matt?
Why should we be concerned with them?
Yes, walls and isolation have always benefited us
The Good Samaritan does not allow such an attitude.
