Goodness

Goodness

Show me what is good
And I will show you the Almighty,
Can there be goodness apart from God?
Does he not hold all that is quality?
In what does goodness lie if not in God?
In the conscience, surely not
For man’s corruption is self evident,
You will say war and genocide are bad
The Almighty demands the death of the Canaanites
All men, women and children killed,
You will say that all men are equal
The Almighty will agree as far as his image goes
His selection though is not based on equality but his will,
You will say the power is in the people’s hands
The Almighty will say, give to Caesar what is Caesars
And that the government bares the sword,
You will say that many ways lead to truth
The Almighty will say he is the way
And all others are deservingly condemned,
For if you are man and he is God
Who shall have the final say?
Can the sculpture argue and debate with the sculptor?
Ridiculous! Humble yourself to his will;
Yes, it is beyond your comprehension
Yes, it is not always what seems good to you,
But he is the holder of good
Goodness would not exist apart from him.
