The 'I' and the 'I AM'

The ‘I’ and the ‘I AM’

I will decide,
I will decide what the rules are
The limitations of life
The boundaries of all actions,
I will decide what morality is
My internal dictionary defines good and bad
My feelings, my impulses- they are law,
I will decide who I will obey
The only authority is ‘I’
Deference negates subjection,
I have my rights you know
I have a voice that will be heard,
I know the mind of the Lord
I am His counselor
I liken myself to God
I am His equal,
For I have the final decision…

Grasshopper, wild branch, clay that comes from the ground
You are but a creature, and one hell bound;
Death is yours, for you died in Adam
Life is a gift and one only ‘I AM’ can offer;
So, say with genuine sincerity the words of Job,
“Nothing on earth is like him,
One made with fear.
He looks on everything that is high;
He is king over all the sons of pride.
I know that You can do all things,
And that no purpose of Yours can be thwarted.
Who is that hides counsel without knowledge?
Therefore I have declared that which I did not understand,
Things too wonderful for me, which I did not know.
Hear, now, and I will speak;
I will ask You, and You instruct me.
I have heard of You by the hearing of the ear;
But now my eye sees You;
Therefore I retract, and I repent in dust and ashes.”
