Modern Disciples

Modern Disciples

Our quiet and shy attitudes
Our complacent comfortableness
The way we live passionless
We’ve become numb and have settled,
Do we have hearts?
Surely yes, but what of our souls,
Do we have them?
Can we own them?
Are they ours?
Do we live from our souls?
What would that look like?
Could it be contained?
So few examples ever
The disciples of old lived
And lived from the deep,
Were their lives not cut off?
Mocked, scorned, beaten, persecuted and killed
And for what,
Love, peace, gentleness, truth, obedience
Faith, conviction…for living?
To live is to be beaten
To live is to suffer
To live is to die
But all else is not living,
The lifeless strive to kill the living
Lifeless they truly are
If they did this to Him
Creator of all souls
Disciples ought not to expect less,
Let it be
The divine will is superior
How rare and sacred are disciples today
What a calling, what a life;
Are we out there?
Are the living, living?
