Oxford

Oxford

Dominus Illuminatio Mea

Shackled by accolades
Ivory Towers can make cages…

You are my seducer
Luring, enticing, mesmerizing me,
Whispering to me what is good, and what is better
Offering me the Apple, with talk of books over cups of tea;

Sweet Academy, how I love you and loathe you;
I hunger for knowledge, but pride precedes the fall,
Can not Athens and Jerusalem be friends, even brothers?
Can I please be learned and holy…?

A different, set apart people
Distinguished by a nosis all their own;
Oh how I am tempted to be in, in,
To be among the elite and intelligent;

Oh Holy Father this is my confession:
I long for that scholarly city of Oxford,
So, give me a never ending desire for your heavenly city
Academy or not, you are my treasure;

Dominus Illuminatio Mea
Dominus Illuminatio Mea
Dominus Illuminatio Mea!
