Future Ruins
A cold, strong wind blows across the Potomac,
The bright, blinding sun shines between the clouds;
The Washington Monument stands strong,
Epically pointing toward transcendence;
Lincoln sits enthroned with eternal dignity
Overlooking the resurrected Rome;
The Capitol dome signifies power,
The grand, intimidating,
Yet finite power of an empire.
