Evangelical Confession
I confess I am bourgeois
And I am not like Paul
No, not at all.
He preached in the market place
Not scared of name or face,
He held the cross dear
And lived without fear;
I confess I am a white, middle class
Arrogant, pompous ass
Who thinks he has some class,
And often puts his faith last
Not considering the trumpet blast;
I confess I am bourgeois
And I am not like Paul
No, not at all.
I keep to my own
And throw no one a bone,
I talk of great sacrifice
But don’t live the heavy price.
